SCORPIONS HEAD COACH CONTRACT TERMINATED
On Monday the 31st of October, the ministry of Youth and Sports terminated the contract of Scorpions Head Coach Paul Put with immediate effect. The termination letter addressed to the Belgian tactician stated ' contrary to requirements of conduct of due deligence as per the terms and conditions of the contract and laws of The Gambia, the ministry noted with dissatisfaction that you failed to qualify the senior football team for the CAF 2012, which was a cardinal requirement on your contractual agreement done in January 2009. As Head Coach, you also failed to draw up a national coaching structure and manual for the Gambia', the letter stated.
Coach Paul Put will be paid four months salary as per terms of the contract upon termination of his services, once he hands over all government property in his possession as soon as possible.
Paul came to the Gambia in 2008 where just barely a week and half to go was given the National team for their first outing against Lone Stars of Liberia in the 2008 qualifiers and drew one all. He twice guided the Scorpions to both World and African cup qualifiers but without success.
His termination has came in the wake of heated public debate after the Gambia again failed to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
